Subway Carriage Relocation

Bernard Hunter Supports Iconic Subway Carriage Relocation

In 2024, Glasgow’s iconic 1980s-style passenger subway carriages were officially retired from service and replaced with a new generation of modern rolling stock. As the legacy fleet was decommissioned, several of the original carriages were made available for sale, sparking widespread public interest and creative reuse opportunities.

Bernard Hunter was proud to play a key role in relocating these historic vehicles, expertly lifting and loading multiple units onto transport for delivery to their new homes across the country.

Among the notable moments was the involvement of rail enthusiast and online celebrity Francis Bourgeois, who appeared on site to personally collect a carriage he had purchased. His enthusiasm, captured on his popular TikTok channel, helped spotlight the significance of preserving these pieces of transport history.

The event also attracted the attention of STV News, highlighting how many of the carriages were rescued through a dedicated charity campaign aimed at preserving Scotland’s industrial and cultural heritage.

Bernard Hunter is honoured to have contributed to this unique and memorable project.

TC1 Tracked Carrier

The fully electric TC1 carrier is the solution for horizontal transport of long, heavy construction material and equipment at a project site.

The carrier is compact and just 80 cm wide, and material can be placed on it in the length or width. The radio remote controlled carrier is perfect for transporting material, such as steel beams, tools and equipment through small access doors and less easily accessible areas. No more heavy lifting for your personnel.

The TC1 has a rotating plateau, 42 centimetres high. It has a low centre of gravity and features precise manoeuvring. It easily drives around bends, even with a load. The TC1 can also drive up very steep inclines. Ergonomic, efficient and safe!

Manitou MHT-10160

The MHT 10160 offers users 36,000 lb. maximum capacity.

Capacity at its maximum lift height of 31′ 10″ is 15,430 lbs. Capacity at its maximum forward reach of 18 feet is 9,260 lbs. The MHT 10160 is powered by a new 175 hp Tier III Mercedes turbo diesel. The MHT features a two speed hydrostatic transmission which makes it both highly maneuverable and extremely operator friendly. Combined with the high horsepower Mercedes engine it enables the MHT 10160 to deliver a massive 34,850 ft. lbs. of drawbar pull equating to excellent rough terrain performance.
